What was your motivation? What inspired you to keep going, even when you wanted to give up?
I want to be healthier and know that my life now and future life depends on me being healthier. I have Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome, which makes you high risk for many diseases and cancers. I need to be healthier to avoid them.

How did you change your eating habits?
I started eliminating carbs because I became insulin resistant due to PCOS. Simple carbs turn into sugar and make insulin resistance worse. So if I usually have eggs, bacon, cheese sandwich for breakfast, I would take away the bread or switch to a low carb or keto bread so those carbs wouldn’t mess up my insulin. I try to have vegetables, fat, and protein to help me feel full when eliminating the carbs.

What did your workout routine consist of? How often did you work out?
I started walking 2 miles a day until I felt comfortable. Then I moved to 3 miles and then to 4 as I felt I could push myself more. Eventually, I felt I could push more, so I started going to a fitness class at the park every Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday. This year I plan to work out Monday through Friday because my goal is to double my 50lb loss to a 100lb loss.

What was your starting weight? What is your current weight?
310 pounds was my heaviest. I currently weigh 260 pounds.

What is your height?

When did you start your journey? How long did your transformation take?
I started walked every day in May 2020, and by December 2020, I was 50 pounds down.

Is weight loss surgery part of your journey?
No, I have not had weight loss surgery and do not plan to have it.

What is the biggest lesson you’ve learned so far?
Take it a day at a time. If you fail today, start new tomorrow! One day’s failure doesn’t mean you have failed entirely!

What advice do you have for women who want to lose weight?
Work for it. Remind yourself every day why you are doing it. If you failed at something today, don’t punish yourself. Just work to master it tomorrow.
