Update: Chryssy lost 22 more pounds for a total of 109 pounds gone. We have been following her journey since 2019, and she wrote in to update her story. After seeing obesity take the lives of her family and friends, she was not going to allow it to take hers. Check out how she took action to change her life.
When did you start your journey?
2018
How long did your transformation take?
Two years
What was your motivation?
My motivation was to live the most fulfilling and healthy life possible. Obesity has taken the lives of family and friends, and I wasn’t going to allow it to take mine.
What inspired you to keep going, even when you wanted to give up?
If I had a bad day, I remembered that it was just one day out of 365 other days. I pushed myself to not allow that one off day to cost me all of my hard work. Aaliyah’s “Try Again” chorus was always my anthem to push me to move forward and keep going.
How did you change your eating habits?
I initially became Vegan and followed Dr. Sebi’s lifestyle change method of eating organic foods. I also incorporated a calorie cap of 1400-1600 calories a day along with intermittent fasting. I cut out sweets, bread, and sodas.

What did your workout routine consist of?
I started going to the gym at the beginning of my weight loss journey but eventually found more success doing workout videos online. I follow Lucy Wyndham Read on YouTube.
At the start of my journey, I worked out five days a week. Today I workout 2-3 days a week.
What was your starting weight? What is your current weight?
Starting weight: 298 pounds
Current weight: 189 pounds
What is your height?
5’3″
Is weight loss surgery part of your journey?
No
What is the biggest lesson you’ve learned so far?
I learned that anything you want to last takes time. I wanted the weight to stay off, and I wanted to enjoy my journey, so I didn’t put too much pressure on myself with strict goals. It didn’t matter if I lost 2 pounds in a month or 5 pounds; it was still something to celebrate.
What advice do you have for women who want to lose weight?
It starts in your mind first. I once read somewhere, “You have to pick your hard.” Losing weight is hard, but depression and illness due to obesity is also hard. Set your own pace along with reasonable goals. Embrace every part of your journey!
