Transformation of the Day: Faith lost 86 pounds. She knew her children were watching her, and, in terms of health, she did not want to be a “Do as I say, not as I do.” type of parent. By working out, adopting a ketogenic diet, and changing her mindset, she has transformed.
What was your motivation? What inspired you to keep going, even when you wanted to give up?
I’ve been heavy set my whole life. I come from a family of heavyset people, due to a mix of genetics and my family showing love through food and being great cooks. I didn’t want this to pass down to my children, and I started witnessing that very thing taking place. I’m not a “Do as I say, not as I do.” type of parent. I knew my kids would follow my example if I took charge of my health, and they would learn proper nutrition from me putting it into practice. The time for excuses and procrastination had to come to an end.
How did you change your eating habits?
I began to follow a Ketogenic diet in May 2019. I practice a “lazy/dirty” keto. I mostly focus on tracking my net carbs and keeping my fat intake high. I also practice intermittent fasting twice a week and extended fasting (24hrs) at least 4x a month.
What did your workout routine consist of? How often did you work out?
I work out at least three times a week. I get bored with workouts, so I switch my routine up often. I swim, hula hoop, dance, jump rope, take nature walks, do yoga, jog, lift weights, and skate. I occasionally visit the gym (less because of Covid). I was part of the last generation to play outside before the digital age, so I like to let my inner child do whatever she wants to do. As long as I’m active, I’m happy.
What was your starting weight? What is your current weight?
My starting weight was 285 pounds, and my current weight is 199 pounds.
What is your height?
When did you start your journey? How long did your transformation take?
I started my journey in May 2019, and I’m still on my journey. 18 months and 85 pounds down. (Which includes Quarantine and two holiday seasons’ weight gain/stalls)
Is weight loss surgery part of your journey?
No surgery. I’m curious about skin removal and/or mommy makeover surgeries in the future. But for now, it’s all-natural weight loss.
What is the biggest lesson you’ve learned so far?
I learned that fitness journeys begin when you change your mindset. I’ve started many journeys over the years, but the goals were weight loss and/or vanity. This time was different because I focused on making better choices for myself as a show of self-love and caring for myself with action.
What advice do you have for women who want to lose weight?
I would advise anyone starting their journey to change the inside (your mindset) first. Evaluate your motives and set goals. Find ways to hold yourself accountable. (For me, it was posting on Instagram @luvhandels and finding a community of like-minded individuals). Reward yourself for EVERY win with self-care and “me” time. MOST importantly, DEATH to scales! Instead, use a measuring tape, waist beads, or old clothes because they are better at giving you more positive affirmation experiences.
