Jessica lost 43 pounds. After losing her job last year, she decided to get serious about releasing the weight. She worked out at home with Beachbody programs and embraced the concept of mindful eating.
I was a surrogate a couple of years ago and gave birth a few days after my 40th birthday. I was already technically overweight, but that added a significant amount of heft.
I had always been an athlete and worked out. However, I was working two jobs at that point, and I didn’t have a lot of free time. My workouts fell by the wayside.
Fast forward a year to 2019: I was at my heaviest weight. I didn’t realize how bad it was until I saw this very picture. (before photo)
In April 2020, I lost my night job due to the pandemic. After a few days of enjoying the lighter schedule, I decided to get serious about getting this weight off. I really had no more excuses not to.
I began doing Beachbody programs, working out six days a week. I’m on my fourth consecutive program now. I’m not on any specific meal plan. I do drink a lot of green smoothies and a gallon of water a day. I also practice ‘mindful eating,’ which allows any indulgences I have to be guilt-free.
I’m 43 pounds down and feeling waaaaay better. I have fewer back issues, increased energy, and an overall better outlook on things in general.
What Beachbody programs did you do?
I did 80 Day Obsession, Body Beast, LIIFT 4, and Morning Meltdown 100 (which I was doing at the same time as the last two). I’m currently about to finish Insanity. Along with the programs, I incrementally increased my daily step goal during this time. I’m now aiming for 10k a day.
What was your starting weight? What is your current weight?
Starting weight: 253 pounds
Current weight: 210 pounds
What is your height?
I’m 5’9″.
What is the biggest lesson you’ve learned?
I’ve learned that good things can happen when I’m consistent and patient. Patience is usually NOT my strong suit. I’ve given up SO many times in the past when I didn’t see results quickly enough. I would give up if I hit a bump in the road or if my weight fluctuated. Now, I don’t even sweat it. My mindset is more long-term vs. wanting quick and immediate results.
What advice would you like to share with women who want to lose weight?
My advice would be to set small goals for yourself, at least at first. I used to overwhelm myself with all these grand, outrageous plans. Then, I’d get discouraged when I realized I had bitten off more than I could chew. Start small, then build. The sense of accomplishment you get when you knock out one of those goals is so gratifying. You can’t help but want to keep going.
