Transformation of the Day: Shanea lost 56 pounds. After giving birth to her daughter in 2018, she gained a significant amount of weight due to inactivity and unhealthy eating habits. She released the weight by working out at home, practicing intermittent fasting, and loving herself each step of the way.
My name is Shanea, and I’m 31 years old. I previously lost 51 pounds, going from 231 pounds to 180 pounds. I kept it off for two years. Then, I got pregnant in March 2018 and had my daughter in December of that year.
After I gave birth to my daughter, the pounds kept on coming. I would sometimes weigh myself, and it seemed that I had gained 7 pounds within a week. I ended up at my heaviest weight of 275 pounds. I contribute all of this to not being as active as I was before getting pregnant and poor eating habits.
I didn’t want to be social or take pictures because of my weight gain. I also felt ashamed of gaining so much weight. The turning point for me was seeing the pictures from my daughter’s christening in February 2020. Since then, I have lost 56 pounds. My current weight is 219 pounds, and my height is 5’4″. I have another 40 lbs to lose to get back to where I was. I am determined to lose at least 20 more pounds before my birthday in March.
How did you change your eating habits?
I changed my eating habits by cutting out all processed foods, and that made a significant change. My intermittent schedule is the 16/8 method. I have my first meal around noon.
What does your workout routine consist of?
I workout 4 to 5 days a week. My home workout routine consists of cardio, lots of jump roping, resistance training, and youtube workout videos. I bought an elliptical machine, and I walk with my daughters in the evenings.
What is the biggest lesson you’ve learned so far?
The biggest lesson so far is to love yourself no matter what. I was so hard on myself for regaining so much weight. I just felt like, “Why should I even try again.” Going through my weight loss pictures motivated me and let me know that if I did it before, I can do it again.
Is weight loss surgery part of your journey?
Weight loss surgery was not a part of my journey.
What advice would you like to share with women who want to lose weight?
This is a lifestyle change. Find your motivation, find your why, and do it your way. Don’t look at weight loss as a task but as a journey. If you fall off track, don’t beat yourself up. Get back on the wagon. Start slowly, make this journey fun, and love yourself for each accomplishment. (If you did ten jump ropes yesterday and did 12 today, pat yourself on the back)
I hope my story motivates someone who has fallen off the wagon and who feels like they can’t get back on to take it one step at a time.
